Lesson Plans for K-14 Classrooms

K-12 Lesson Plan Contest (Fall Semester)

Calling all K-12 teachers across all content areas! You have a chance to win cash by entering our lesson plan competition. The deadline for submission is December 1, 2024, but you are welcome to submit your lessons at any time before then. Winners will be announced by January 15, 2025.

We invite teachers to submit one or more original lesson plans related to East Asia. The Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) focuses on the major languages of East Asia (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) and the disciplines needed for a comprehensive understanding of the region. Therefore, we prioritize content that emphasizes East Asian languages or countries.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Content and Format: Lesson plans may cover any subject area and be suitable for any grade level. They should be in a format that other teachers, who may not have a strong background in the subject, can easily use. Please include a concise outline of the relevant K-12 academic standards addressed.
  • Resources: List, link, or include any resources needed for the lesson. If readings or materials are required, they must be submitted along with the lesson plan.
  • Preferred Submissions: Lesson plans accompanied by a teaching demonstration video will receive additional consideration. If the teaching video includes students, a permission slip signed by a teacher or school administrator is required.
  • Format Requirements: Submit your lesson as a Word document or PDF (not a Google document). Include your name on the lesson plan. You may also add your school and email address if desired, though this is optional.

Prizes:

  • First Place (1 winner): $200 cash prize
  • Second Place (2 winners): $100 cash prize each

Note: Per university policy, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for the cash prizes.

Recognition:

  • School officials of the teachers whose lesson plans are chosen for "publication" on our website or other outreach platforms will be notified. Published lessons remain the property of the author and can be used on other websites or in print materials if allowed.
  • Winning lesson plans will be shared widely with educators through our outreach program. Teaching demonstration videos may also be featured on the CEAS website.

How to Enter:

  • Email your lesson plans to: eas-center@arizona.edu
  • Include detailed contact information in the body of the email (phone number, school address, school, and district name). This information will not appear on the website, though your name and potentially your school will be included.

Note: If your lesson plan is "published" on our website, it remains your property and may be shared elsewhere or published in print, provided it complies with other publication rules.
