Book Talk by Dr. Andre Schmid
After an introduction to his recently published book, North Korea's Mundane Revolution: Socialist Living and the Rise of Kim Il Sung, 1953-1965, Prof. Schmid will be joined by Prof. Sandra Park and Prof. Sunyoung Yang for a roundtable discussion of the book's thesis concerning the postwar formation of the North Korean state. Issues discussed will include how promoted ideals of the modern individual, work styles, and forms of consumption stripped the categories of class and gender of their critical power even as the Party-state promoted them in the name of revolution.
