Frank is a fourth generation Southern Arizonan, born in Tucson, who was in the first group of China scholars to study in the People’s Republic of China after normalization of relations in 1979. After 1979, he raised a family and built a business and teaching career in China. He has worked in agriculture, consulting and primarily in financial services with Citibank and Salomon Brothers. Frank has sat on the boards of numerous financial institutions in China, including JP Morgan Chase China. He re-established Citibank in Vietnam in the early 90s and was an independent director on the board of Khan Bank, Mongolia’s largest commercial bank. Frank has taught economics, economic history and corporate finance at Stanford, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies and Peking University, where he still teaches. Most recently, he was the China Director for the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He and his wife Elise divide their time between Tucson and Beijing.
