Inaugural Paths Across the Pacific Speaker Series on Asia-Latin American Relations

Presented by UA Center for East Asian Studies & the Center for Latin American Studies, in Partnership with the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) Center in Tucson and the Mexican Consulate of Tucson 

This free event will take place at the Health Sciences Information Building Forum (1670 E. Drachman) and is open to the public. The talk will begin at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception with refreshments at 4:30pm. 

Paths Across the Pacific is a collaboration between the newly formed Center for East Asian Studies and the Center for Latin American Studies, with the purpose of bringing greater understanding and visibility to Asia-Latin American relations. This program is made possible through a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Grant. 

Dr. Mariana de Jesús Escalante is a full-time professor at the Center for International Relations of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She obtained her Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from UNAM and a Master’s in International Relations from Peking University. Dr. Escalante is a member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT.)  Her lines of research focus on Chinese foreign policy, Chinese nationalism, Confucianism, contemporary Chinese society, mutual perspectives between China and Mexico, and women in China.

This event is presented by the University of Arizona’s Center for East Asian Studies & Center for Latin American Studies, and co-sponsored by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) Center in Tucson, the Mexican Consulate of Tucson, and Arizona International, with support from the Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry.
