Cultural Ambassador Scholarship Program

Are you a student from East Asia? Do you currently study East Asian languages and cultures? Are you interested in put your study into practice? 

If any one of the above is true, CEAS is looking for you! 

The Center for East Asian Studies at University of Arizona (CEAS) has established the Cultural Ambassador Scholarship Program to award students who can share their interests, knowledge, and/or experiences related to East Asia with the community in Tucson and beyond. Selected Cultural Ambassadors join CEAS staff at outreach events such as K-12 classroom visits, the Tucson Festival of Books, and more! 

Successful candidates will demonstrate good character, well-rounded interests, and interest in community involvement. Qualified candidates for the awards will be determined by the Cultural Ambassador Scholarship Committee at CEAS, based on the candidates’ experience and knowledge, length and depth of participation, and the impact of contribution. 

Award Specifics: 

  • Rising Contributor Award: $50 each, for students who are beginning to make a positive impact through participation, helpfulness, or emerging leadership. 

  • Distinguished Contributor Award: $100 each, for students whose efforts go above and beyond, showing consistent dedication, leadership, and meaningful contributions to the community. 

Eligibility: 

  • Have in-depth and/or personal experience related to East Asia. The ability to speak at least one East Asian language (intermediate level and above) is preferred.  

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Arizona. You do NOT have to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

  • Please put “CEAS Cultural Ambassador Scholarship Application” in the subject line. In the body of the email, please include the following information: 

  • Your full legal name 

  • UA email address 

  • Student ID 

  • Year/Level of study  

  • A short paragraph explaining why you are interested in applying for this scholarship, including your area of interest.
